Gemotions

"This coffee is perfect," I murmured, taking another slow sip, letting the warmth spread through me. The morning sun streamed through the kitchen window, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air. The clinking of dishes and the rhythmic chopping from the kitchen downstairs, where my wife was preparing breakfast, filled the house.

Our neighbor, Mrs. Gable, usually putters around her garden at this hour. I hadn't seen her this morning. She was always so friendly, quick to offer a batch of homemade cookies or a friendly chat over the fence. She had always appeared very simple, wearing faded overalls and a wide-brimmed sunhat, her hands stained with earth.

Then, a low rumble vibrated through the quiet street. A brand-new, cherry-red convertible – a model I recognized to be extremely expensive – pulled into Mrs. Gable's driveway. A driver got out, impeccably dressed, and began unloading several designer shopping bags. I nearly choked on my coffee.
